Jesus did not try to make them understand. Jesus did not force anyone. Jesus brought the opportunity to each person, and they saw, through the testimony of His actions and the fruit of His works, that Jesus could be trusted, that Jesus had something true; and, through that recognition, they sought the truth.
Each person has their own process. You can only help to the extent that they accept your help and ask for it. As for everything else, the witness of your actions is what will lead more people to awaken.
Each person has their own process; each person has had their own choice; each person has the opportunity, every day, to seek the truth and seek reconnection. And each person may seek, but with different levels of understanding, different priorities, and different perceptions. Only they know whether they have been negligent or whether they have sought, to the extent that their understanding allowed, to recognize the whole truth.
Live your life. Be the best you can be with what you have, and your life will be used for awakening, through the light and for the light. What matters is not one specific person. You are not here to awaken specific people or try to save them, for in trying, you lose your energy, whereas the true testimony is the fruit of your life.
In this process, many more souls will be awakened. Therefore, it is important not to advocate for something directly unless you can see through which eyes they are listening to you: those of the ego or those of the soul.
